ABOUT THIS SITE

It is primarily a display of my wood engravings, organised into two main parts. There is an archive section for refence purposes and a section showing which prints are for sale. The archive is not yet complete–the first five years are still in preparation–but when finished it will show all my editioned engravings. A new development in 2009 is book publishing under the imprint of Grapho Editions.

VIEWING THE PRINTS

It is very difficult to present on screen engravings which are comprised of fine lines. And mine often are. So if you have not seen any of my original work on paper then you might find it hard to appreciate their essential quality from what you are viewing here. Allowances will need to made. Those of you who know about these problems will, I hope, find that my presentation here is acceptable. Perhaps I haven't helped by my insistence on showing them no larger than actual size; to scale them up changes their character and I prefer this not to happen, whether they are reproduced on screen or in print. I use an Apple computer so the resolution of the images is 72dpi.

ABOUT WOOD ENGRAVING

As there is already plenty published, whether in books or on the internet, about the basic process of engraving I can do no better than point you to the website of The Society of Wood Engravers, a link to which appears on the Contact page.
Of course I would be happy to respond to enquiries about specific prints of my own and the techniques I've used in their making.

EDITIONING

For some years now I have been printing the work of other relief printmakers. If you might need such assistance please contact me.

BOOKS

Under the imprint of Grapho Editions I have published & printed 'Wings Take Us', a book on the theme of birds with poetry by Phil Madden and images by myself. Click on Books for more details.

A note about Grapho Editions:
Choosing a name took much deliberation. It came to an end when I read the first page of W.J.Linton's book Wood-Engraving, a Manual of Instruction, 1884.
